The Light Festival
Today is the day the Indians celebrate light festival.
Deepavali is what we all call it here. Deepavali means "row of lights". Usually this is celebrated in end Oct or Nov. There are beliefs and custom on this day but I'm not very sure about what and how. And I do know that this is a very very important festival and so we all got Public Holiday for it. Yay! On this day, many many shopping malls have their concourse decorated with the colored rice/powder. I am always, ALWAYS fascinated by that. cause it's one the most amazing art I've seen. It's even more artistic than painting.. painting you can simply mix the colours and blend and blend and blend till you get the effects you want. BUT, rice? you need lots of skill and practice. Last weekend, I saw the Deepavali deco at E@Curve. It was so beautiful I dont have a word to describe it. It was just S-P-E-C-T-A-C-U-L-A-R.. (pictures below are not mine :)) ![]() ![]() This is them making the Kolam or some call it Rangoli... and below is the final art. Like OHEMGEE! heheheh. nice right? btw, if you wanna know more about the D-pavali at E@Curve, click here . and so, my paternal grandma married an indian man and we all call him "tata" which means grandpa.. every year all of us will go to their house for Deepavali.. My grandma is such an awesome chef. This year we have curry chicken and mutton, soy sauce chicken, CRAB(!), dhal, and nonetheless vege. MURUKU was homemade (what more can we ask for?) hehe. enjoyed the night... Dad (behind), Jojo, Myself and Mama! :D Labels: Deepavali 2011
